    Simple Cod Seasoning Recipe

This simple cod seasoning recipe is easy and quick to make, taking less than 5 minutes to assemble.

Cod, as you may know, has a mild, sweet, and delicate taste, and the perfect spice rub will enhance the taste, making it flavorful and delicious. This is what this one does, it is the best seasoning for cod fish that I like to use in my fish recipes, and I love it!

Whether you are after cod fish taco seasoning, or fried or baked cod seasoning, this is the best one, and it makes use of a few simple pantry ingredients.

This cod spice rub adds a layer of complex flavors to the fish. There's a little smokiness from the paprika, a little intensity from the garlic and onion, and the much-needed herbiness from coriander, thyme, and oregano. All these are complemented well by some heat from cayenne pepper, which gives a slight kick to the seasoning.

This cod fish seasoning is super versatile. Apart from cod fish, you can also use it on Hake, Tilapia, Catfish, Mackerel, Sea bass, and other seafood. It's that good.

This fish seasoning for cod can be used on grilled, fried, or baked cod. Use it on fillets, steak, fish tacos, and more.

    Ingredients

Here is what you will need to make it:

Paprika- I like to use smoked paprika as it adds both color and some smokiness to the seasoning. You can substitute it for sweet paprika.

Onion granules - You can swap this for onion powder.

Garlic granules- Use garlic powder if you don't have garlic granules.

    Coriander

Dried Thyme- A little of this goes a long way.

Oregano- It goes well with fish

Cayenne or black pepper- Adjust quantity to your taste.

    How To Make Cod Seasoning

Here is a step-by-step on how to make it:

    • Put all the ingredients into a single bowl in their respective quantities.
    • Mix them until combined perfectly.

    • It's ready to use or store for later use.

    How To Use It

Whether applying the seasoning to fish or anything else, the overall method is the same. Simply pat dry the fish filets with paper towels, and sprinkle both sides evenly with the seasoning. And that's it! Cook and enjoy the fish just the way you like. I recommend 2 teaspoons per 250g fish.

Here are some recipes to use it on:

    Pan fried cod

    Air fryer frozen cod

    Air fryer Cod

    Instant pot cod

    Air fryer mackerel

    Air fryer seabass

    How To Store

Since it's a dry rub, you can store it for longer. Simply put it in an airtight container and keep it in a cool, dark place. Though I doubt it will go unused for long, the good news is it can be stored for up to a year.

Don't forget to label the container with the name and dates.

Tips For Making Fish Seasoning For Cod

While there's nothing complex as far as making seasoning is concerned, keep a few things in mind before you make or use it:

    • Apply the seasoning gently- As you know, the fish is delicate so apply the seasoning gently to avoid breaking apart the filets. Although I recommend sprinkling the seasoning on the filet, you can also rub it gently on the fish with the help of a brush or fingers.
    • Adjust accordingly- As you apply the seasoning, it's important to consider how you'll be cooking the fish and adjust accordingly. For example, if you pan fry it, applying just the dry seasoning is enough. However, adding some olive oil to the seasoning will be ideal if you bake or grill it.
    • Experimenting is the key- Would you like to taste more of one of the ingredients in the recipe? You can increase the quantity. You can also substitute one of the ingredients for another for a twist. Feel free to experiment as long as your taste buds are happy.
    • Let it rest- After you apply the seasoning to the filets, let them rest for about 10-15 minutes. This will let the spices penetrate the fish and impart maximum flavor before you cook it.

    FAQS

How do you make the seasonings stick to fish?

To ensure the seasonings stick to the fish to the end, try coating it with some olive oil first, especially when grilling. This will help develop a nice crust and ensure none of the spices go to waste.

Do fish need a lot of seasoning?

No! Due to the delicate flavor of fish, even a little goes a long way. Rubbing too much seasoning on the fish could be overwhelming.

How early should you season it?

You should season the fish right before cooking, or 20-30 minutes at the most. Otherwise, the salt will draw all the moisture to the surface.
