    My homemade cajun seasoning recipe makes use of a few simple ingredients but it's flavorful. This cajun spice mix is easy and quick to put together in just 5 minutes.

    Homemade Cajun Seasoning Recipe

    This cajun seasoning is simple but aromatic and versatile. It goes with everything! Chicken, Fish, vegetables, steak, and more.

    It is spicy, flavorful, and delicious. This is one homemade Seasoning that should be in your kitchen cupboard at all times. I love it and use it on almost everything.

    My cajun spice and herbs blend makes use of a few ingredients. 7 ingredients and you have a seasoning that can be used at all times but feel free to add your favorite herb to the mix.

    What is Cajun Seasoning

    Cajun seasoning is a blend of spices and herbs used to season foods. It is recognized as Southern Louisiana seasoning but incorporates elements of African, French, and Spanish cooking.
    The spice blend is spicy, smokey, earthy, and delicious. It is simple to make and requires 5 minutes or less to put together.

    What is In Cajun Seasoning

    Here are the ingredients for cajun seasoning:

    Paprika- I like to use smoked paprika but you can use regular or sweet paprika.
    Cayenne pepper- This is spicy so adjust the quantity to suit your spice tolerance.
    Onion granules - You can use onion powder if that's what you have.
    Garlic granules- I like to use granules but you can use garlic powder.
    Black pepper
    Oregano
    Thyme
    - Dried thyme adds aroma and flavor.
    Salt- This is optional. Some people prefer not to add salt to their homemade seasonings.

    How To Make Cajun Seasoning

    Here are the step-by-step instructions on how to make it :

    1) Add the paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, onion granules, garlic powder, oregano, thyme, and salt in a dry bowl.

    2) Mix all the ingredients in the bowl till they are well combined.

    3) Store in a spice jar or an airtight container and label.

    How To Use

    It is commonly used on meat but can be used on vegetables and other foods. Here are some recipes to use it:
    Baked boneless chicken thighs, pan fried chicken breast, instant pot chicken drumsticks

    Baked diced potatoes, seasoned potato wedges

    Pan fried cod, air fryer haddock, pan fried salmon

    Air fryer vegetables, roasted frozen vegetables

    Tips

    • The pepper quantity can be adjusted to suit your taste.
    • Salt is optional and you can leave it out of the seasoning if you prefer.
    • Dry all the utensils you'll use to make and store the seasoning.

    Blackening seasoning and Vegetable seasoning are good substitutes for it.

    Is Cajun seasoning very hot?

    It is a spicy seasoning that has cayenne pepper and black pepper as part of its ingredients but these peppers can be adjusted to suit your spice level preference.

    Storage

    Transfer the spice into a spice jar or an airtight container, label it, and store it in a cool dry place, away from direct sunlight. It can be stored for up to a year.
