    Cooking frozen vegetables on the stove is easy and quick and no defrosting is needed. This is my favorite way of cooking mixed veggies and this post will show you how to cook it, how long to cook it, and share helpful tips.

    How To Cook Frozen Vegetables

    Here are some reasons why you should learn how to cook frozen vegetables:

    Easy - It's easy to make and in 3 simple steps, you can have perfectly cooked frozen mixed vegetables.
    Quick- If you want a quick side dish, that requires minimal prep, this is the one. No cutting of veggies is required and no need to thaw the vegetables which saves a lot of prep time. All you need is 8-10 minutes and you have a delicious buttered mixed vegetables side dish.
    Healthy - Vegetables are a healthy dish that is low in calories and nutritious.
    Flavorful- This stove top frozen vegetables is buttery, garlicky, flavorful, and delicious. You will love it.
    Versatile- It is a versatile dish that can be served with anything. Chicken, steak, rice, pasta, or any food. This recipe method works for green peas, carrots, sweetcorn, broccoli, and farmhouse vegetables.

    Budget friendly- Frozen mixed vegetables are cheaper and you get varieties of veggies in a pack. They are freshly frozen when in season and you can have your favorite veggies all year round even when not in season.

    Here are what you will need to make this recipe:

    Frozen mixed vegetables- I used frozen mixed vegetables but you can use farmhouse vegetables if that's what you have.

    Butter- Unsalted butter should be the first choice but you can also use salted butter however taste the veggies before adding more salt.

    Black pepper- Freshly ground is best. This can be substituted for cayenne pepper.

    Salt

    Garlic granules (optional) - This is optional but the flavor is perfect with mixed veggies.

    Onion (optional)

    How To Cook Frozen Vegetables On The Stove

    Here's a step by step instructions on how to cook frozen vegetables without getting soggy:
    Step 1- Place a skillet on medium heat. When the pan is heated, add the frozen vegetables.

    Step 2- Stir and cook the mixed vegetables till the water dries up and the vegs tender (about 3-6 minutes). If not tender when the water has dried up, add 1-3 tablespoons of water or chicken broth and continue to cook till tender.

    Step 3- Add butter, garlic granules, onion granules, black pepper, and salt.

    Stir and cook till the butter is melted and the ingredients are all combined (1-2 minutes).

    Take off the heat and serve.

    Variations/Substitutions

    Seasoning- You can substitute the seasonings for this homemade vegetable seasoning, Italian seasoning, or any good seasoning of your choice.

    Cheese- You can add Parmesan cheese. Add it at the time you add in the butter.

    Cook It in the oven- You can also cook frozen vegetables in the oven. Follow this roasted frozen vegetables recipe.

    How Long To Cook Frozen Vegetables

    Cooking frozen vegetables is quick. How long to cook frozen vegetables on the stove is 6-10 minutes. This is for mixed vegetables like peas, sweet corn, carrots, and green beans.
    If cooking vegetables that are cut into larger pieces, this will take longer to cook. Add 3-5 minutes.

    Vegetables are cooked when they are tender and heated through. Avoid overcooking so they don't lose their vibrant color and get soggy.

    Here are a few suggestions of what to serve vegetables with:

    Chicken- Baked boneless chicken breast, Air fryer thin chicken, Chicken bites in air fryer, Pan fried chicken drumsticks.
    Potatoes- Cream cheese mashed potatoes, Sliced potatoes, boiled potatoes.
    Rice- Yellow rice, curry rice,
    Fish- Instant pot fish, Boiled fish, Air fryer salmon with skin

    Helpful Tips

    • Don't thaw the vegetables before cooking.
    • Use a wide pan so they cook quickly without getting soggy.
    • Stir the veggies frequently so they cook evenly.
    • Avoid cooking it for too long as overcooking can make them mushy.
    • When pan cooking frozen vegetables, don't cover the pan to avoid trapped steam making them soggy. The ice from the veggies is usually enough to steam and cook the veggies.
    • You can add herbs like parsley, thyme, dill, and rosemary.
    • Leftovers can be used in omelets, frittata, soups, and curries.

    No, It's best to cook from frozen as it prevents the veggies from getting soggy. It is also quicker to cook it without thawing.

    Let the vegetables cool completely then transfer to an airtight container then store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. I don't recommend to refreeze them.
    Reheat it on the stove, oven, or in the microwave. It takes 45-60 seconds to reheat in the microwave and 2-3 minutes on the stove.

    Leftovers can be used in omelets, Soups, Fritatta, fried rice, pies, casseroles, and curries.
