    Boiling fish is quick and it can be ready in just 10 minutes or less depending on the type of fish making it a good option for when you want a quick dinner.

    Be it fish fillets, loins, fish steak, or whole fish, boiling fish is straightforward, and requires just a few ingredients. The ingredients used are common dried herbs and spices found in the kitchen cupboard.

    For this recipe, I used salmon fish but you can use any other type of fish. Apart from boiled salmon, other fish that are best for boiling are halibut, cod, mackerel, tilapia, catfish, hake, sea bass, and red bream amongst others.

    Ingredients

    Fish fillets- I used salmon but you can use any type like halibut, cod, haddock, tilapia.

    Smoked paprika

    Parsley

    Onion

    Black pepper

    Stock cube - Optional

    Salt

    Water

    You can simply use this perfect salmon seasoning or any good fish seasoning of your choice.

    How To Boil Fish

    Clean the fish

    Add the fish into a pot then add paprika, black pepper, parsley, chopped onions, stock cube, and salt.

    Pour water in the pot enough to cover the fish by at least half an inch.

    It's best to use boiling water so it firms the flesh of the skin. Also put enough salt so the fish doesn't taste bland. The water should taste slightly salty.

    Place the pot on medium heat and cook the fish for 5-8 minutes or till tender.

    When cooked, use a slotted spoon or spatula to transfer the fish to a plate.

    Serve and enjoy.

    You can serve some of the broth with the fish or save it to use in recipes that call for fish broth.

    How To Boil Frozen Fish

    Boiling frozen fish is similar to cooking it from fresh however cooking time when boiling it from frozen is slightly longer. Here's how to boil fish from frozen:

    Rinse off the ice glaze if any.

    Put water in a pot and bring to boil.

    Add paprika, onion, black pepper, parsley, stock cube, and salt.

    Stir and add the frozen fish.

    Simmer for 8-10 minutes or until cooked tender.

    Bring them out of the broth and serve.

    Boiled fish cooking time depends on the type of fish, the size, the method of cooking, and if cooking skin on.

    The fish in this post took 6 minutes to boil. If using thicker pieces, it will take slightly longer. Also, whole fish will take longer to boil than fish fillets, steak, and loins.

    How long to boil salmon is 5-8 minutes.

    For white fish like cod, Haddock, and others boiling time is 5-6 minutes.

    If boiling the fish from frozen, add 2-3 minutes.

    Fish is cooked when the inside is tender, it flakes when a fork is inserted, and when checked with an instant thermometer the internal temperature is at least 140F.

    To store boiled fish, let it completely cool then pack it in a sealable container or Ziploc, label it with name and use by date, then store in the fridge for up to 3 days.

    If you want to preserve it for more than 3 days then you should put it in the freezer from the start. It will be preserved for up to 6 months in the freezer.

    Leftover can be used in soups, sandwiches, wraps, curries, and stews.

    It can be reheated in the microwave. To reheat it in the microwave, place the fish on a microwave safe plate, sprinkle with a tablespoon of water, put in the microwave, cover and use the high settings of the microwave to reheat at 30 seconds interval till fish is warmed through.
