Instant Pot Boiled Potatoes Recipe
This instant pot boiled potatoes is tender, fluffy and cooks in less than 10 minutes! Served with side like gravy, instant pot steak, chicken, carrots or any sides of choice makes for filling meal.
There are two methods i use for boiling potatoes. With skin on or peeling the skin before cooking.
I like to peel the skin before cooking for diced potatoes to use in potato salad or some recipes i prefer without the skin on.
I have detailed both methods in this post for you to choose on whichever one you prefer.
Ingredients for Instant Pot Boiled Potatoes
Potatoes - Russet potatoes, Mary piper , red potatoes, white potatoes or similar
Water
Salt
How to make boiled potatoes in instant pot (skin on)
Using a soft sponge, wash the potatoes under running water to get rid of dirt on the outer skin.
Poke the potatoes with fork to make holes in each potato. This is to prevent potatoes from exploding in the pressurecooker.
Add a cup of water in the inner pot of the instant pot then place trivet or steamer basket in the pot.
Place the potatoes on the trivet then close the instant pot pressure cooker with it’s lid.
Turn the lid valve into sealing position and set instant pot to manual pressure cook on high 5 minutes. After the pressure cooking cycle, do 5 minutes natural release.
When the pot is depressurised, open the lid and bring out the cooked potatoes.
Peel, sprinkle with salt, serve with sides of choice and enjoy.
Instant Pot Diced Potates
If you are using big sized potatoes, cut into smaller equal size before cooking or adjust cooking time. The steps to follow remain as above.
Instant pot boiled potatoes with peeled skin
Using potato peeler or knife, peel the outer skin of the potatoes.Rinse the potatoes, drain and season with salt.
Add a cup of water in the inner pot of the instant pot then place trivet or steamer basket in the pot.
Place the potatoes on the trivet then close the instant pot pressure cooker with it’s lid.
Turn the lid valve into sealing position and set instant pot to manual pressure cook on high 5 minutes. After the pressure cooking cycle, do 5 minutes natural release.
When the pot is depressurised, open the lid and bring out the cooked potatoes.
Serve with sides of choice.

How to store
Leave to cool then put in plastic container or freezer bags and store in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Leftover boiled potatoes can be used in salads, soups and stews, curries and more.
Tips
- Use similar size potatoes or cut into equal parts so they cook at same time.
- If you use baby potatoes no need to pierce with fork.
- To serve you can add butter and black pepper as toppings.
