    Learn how to boil sausage before grilling, baking, or air frying with this boiled sausages recipe. Boiling sausage is easy, simple, quick, and is ready in 15 minutes. Use this recipe for any type from beef, chicken, Italian sausage, turkey, and more.

    Boiled Sausage (How To Boil Sausage)

    This boiled sausages recipe is easy, quick and you can use it for any type of sausages including breakfast sausages, Italian sausages, chicken sausages, pork, or beef.

    It is a quick recipe that is ready in 10 - 30 minutes depending on the type of sausage as raw sausage takes longer to boil than pre-cooked ones.

    This recipe uses only a few ingredients mainly sausages and water. 

    Boiling is healthier than deep frying and no extra calories are added during the cooking process. 

    After boiling sausage, you can serve and eat it boiled or go ahead to grill, bake, or air fry for golden brown, crispy skin.

    Boiling sausages before baking or grilling save time as it reduces the total cooking time.

    Can you boil sausages?

    Yes, you can. It's the easiest and quickest method of cooking sausages.

    Can you eat boiled sausage?

    Yes, boiled sausages are tender, juicy, and delicious. They are also healthy and high in protein.

    Should I boil sausages before cooking?

    You don't have to boil sausage before cooking. You can fry or bake it from raw.

    Can I boil frozen sausage?

    Yes, you can boil frozen sausage although it will take longer to boil than if boiling it from fresh.

    Ingredients

    Sausages- I have used chicken sausages for this but you can use pork, beef, turkey, or any other.

    Water or Broth

    Note that some sausages are high in salt so if using broth, use no sodium broth.

    How To Boil Sausage

    Put the sausages lying flat in a pot.

    Add water or broth into the pot to cover the sausage. The water should be about half an inch above the sausages.

    Cover the pot and leave the sausage to boil on medium heat for 10 minutes or till fork tender.

    The water from cooking will be cloudy, due to the release of fat in it. Don't worry about it. Drain the water and discard it.

    You can then brown the sausages in the oven, pan, or air fry (Optional).

    How Long To Boil Sausage

    How long to boil sausages is generally between 10 - 15 minutes depending on the thickness, and if it's chicken, beef, or pork sausage. If boiling raw sausages, it might take up to 30 minutes.

    How long to boil chicken sausage is 10 minutes.

    How long to boil Italian sausages is between 20-30 minutes.

    For how long to boil beef sausage, it's between 10-15 minutes.

    Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness by inserting it in the thickest part of the sausage and reading the temperature. If the temperature is at least 160F, then it is safely cooked.

    To Bake After Boiling

    Preheat the oven at 200C/400F.

    Arrange the sausages on a baking tray then put the tray in the oven.

    Bake for 6 minutes or till it's golden brown flipping the sausages halfway through baking.

    Serve and enjoy.

    Serving Suggestion

    Serve with mashed potatoes, boiled potatoes, fried potatoes.

    Boiled broccoli, carrots, sauteed vegetables.

    Use boiled sausages in omelets, Fritatta, curried sausages, stir-fries, fried rice. 

    You can also use it in soups, stew, sauces, and curries.

    How To Store

    When sausages are completely cooled, pack into a sealable container or Ziploc and store in the fridge or freezer depending on how long you want to store for. 

    In the fridge - It will last up to 3 days.

    In the freezer - It will store well for up to 6 months. 

    Reheat on the stove, microwave, or oven.

    • Don't prick the sausages so they don't lose flavor with the water.
    • The water should cover the sausages for even cooking.
    • If using broth, use one with low sodium.
    • Cook on medium heat.
