Making pasta with spinach is a way of adding vegetables to it and this dish is not only healthy but it's also packed full of flavor, creamy, and delicious.
Spinach is a green vegetable that's quick to cook, loaded with antioxidants, and nutritious. It is high in iron, and a good source of Vitamins C, K, and A. It's also a good source of magnesium, phosphorus, and calcium. Adding spinach to meals enriches it with these nutrients which are good for the body.
This Pasta and spinach dish makes the perfect comfort food. It's creamy, filling, and kids and adults love it.
Only a few simple pantry ingredients are used in making this Spinach Pasta recipe which makes it budget-friendly. It requires minimal preparation and like most of my pasta recipes, from prep to table, it is ready in under 30 minutes. I love quick and delicious and I'm sure you too will love this creamy spinach pasta as I do.
To make it creamy, I used heavy cream and Parmesan cheese but it can be substituted with cream cheese or coconut cream. I also used rigatoni pasta, however, you can use any type of pasta such as Penne, macaroni, fusilli, and spaghetti.

Ingredients
The full ingredient list, measurements, and directions are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Pasta- I used rigatoni. You can use any type of pasta be it short pasta like penne, or fusilli or long pasta like spaghetti, linguine, or tagliatelle.
Spinach- I use fresh baby spinach but you can also use frozen spinach for this recipe. If using frozen spinach, just defrost and squeeze out the excess liquid before using it.
Onion- Freshly chopped onions
Garlic
Heavy cream- This is also known as double cream. It can be substituted with cream cheese or coconut cream.
Parsley
Basil
Oregano
Paprika
Olive oil
Parmesan
Salt
How To Make Spinach Pasta
Boil Pasta
In a pot, add water, let it boil then add salt. Add pasta to the boiling water, stir, and cook it till it's aldente.
Reserve some of the pasta water then strain the pasta in a colander.
Make the creamy spinach sauce
While the pasta is boiling, place a skillet or pot on medium heat.
Add oil to the skillet then add the diced onions. Saute the onions for 2-3 minutes or until it's translucent.
Add minced garlic, and saute for another 1 minute then add parsley, basil, oregano, paprika, black pepper, and salt.
Stir in the double cream and Parmesan.
then add the spinach to the sauce. Cook it for 2 minutes or until the spinach is wilted.
Add some pasta water to thin the sauce if needed.
Combine Pasta with spinach sauce
Add the cooked pasta to the creamy spinach sauce, then stir to combine the pasta and spinach sauce.
Simmer for 1-2 minutes then take it off heat.
Serve and enjoy.
Variation
Creamy Tomato spinach pasta- Add tomato paste after sauteeing the onions and garlic and cook for 3-5 minutes before adding seasoning, cream, and cheese
Chicken spinach pasta- If you have leftover chicken you can simply add it to the sauce just before combining the sauce with pasta. No leftover chicken? Simply pan-fry some chicken breast or boneless chicken thighs.
Love mushrooms? You can also include it in the dish.
This is a versatile dish and other proteins like sausages, and shrimp can also be added.
What To Serve With
It can be eaten on its own or served with some of the dishes suggested below:
Seafood- Air fryer shrimp, pan fried salmon, air fryer haddock
Steak- Sirloin steak, Pan fried steak, Instant pot steak, air fryer Steak bites
Chicken- Instant pot chicken drumsticks, pan fried chicken breast, oven baked chicken drumsticks, boiled chicken breast, boiled chicken thighs.
Lamb- Air fryer lamb chops
Bread- Garlic bread, no yeast bread, dinner rolls
How To Store
It is best eaten fresh. However, it stores well and leftovers can be stored for later consumption. Let it cool completely then transfer it into an airtight container, label it, and put it in the fridge where it'll last for up to 3 days, or in the freezer where it'll keep well for up to 3 months.
It can be reheated in the microwave or on the stovetop.
To reheat it in the microwave- Transfer it to a microwave-safe plate, sprinkle it with some water then microwave on high settings at 30 seconds intervals till it's heated through.
Tips For Making Pasta With Spinach
- Any type of pasta works for this recipe however I like short pasta like penne, macaroni, and rigatoni because they soak in the sauce.

- Let the parmesan melt, and the spinach wilted before adding the pasta.
