It is easy to cook and perfect for busy weeknights when you want something yummy but quick. A few ingredients, simple cooking, 20 minutes, and you have protein-packed, delicious Mongolian beef with ground beef.
Classic Mongolian beef is made with steak cut thinly, but this is made with ground beef/minced beef. Minced beef is budget-friendly, readily available in stores, and quicker to cook than steak strips.
My family loves this Chinese American dish, and we like serving Mongolian minced beef with rice. My second daughter likes it with noodles or served over pasta. It is one of our favorite ground beef recipes.

Here is what you will need to make ground beef Mongolian:
Ground beef - This is also called minced beef, steak mince, or beef mince.
Onion - Finely chopped brown or yellow onion.
Garlic - Minced or pureed
Ginger - Minced or pureed
Spring onions- This is also known as green onions or scallions.
Black pepper
Soy Sauce - Dark or Light soy sauce works fine. I use dark.
Hoisin sauce
Brown sugar
Sesame oil - A little goes a long way in the flavor profile of this dish.
Chicken stock or water
Cornflour- This helps thicken the sauce and makes it silky.
Salt
Sesame seeds for garnishing (optional)
Vegetable oil

How To Cook Mongolian Ground Beef
Here's the step-by-step instructions:
Make Mongolian sauce- Add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, black pepper, brown sugar, garlic, Sesame oil, water, and cornflour to a bowl. Mix till well combined. Set aside.

Cook ground beef- Place a skillet on medium heat, add oil, and chopped onions. Saute the onions for 1-2 minutes until translucent before adding the ground beef.

Stir and brown the beef (until no longer pink), add ginger, salt, and spring onions. Stir and cook for 5 minutes.

Pour in the sauce- Add the Mongolian sauce, stir, and cook till the sauce is thickened.

Take off the heat.
Garnish with sesame seeds (optional)
Serve and enjoy.

I like serving Mongolian ground beef with rice. Plain boiled rice, yellow rice, egg fried rice, and jasmine rice are some that pair well with it.
Other sides that you can serve with it are:
Noodles, spaghetti, fettuccine, and other pastas
Vegetables like pan fried carrots, pan seared vegetables, boiled broccoli, and roasted veggies.
It can also be served with mashed potatoes or boiled potatoes.
Storage and Reheating
Transfer Mongolian beef to an airtight container, label, and store in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
It can be reheated in a pan on the stove or in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave.
If too thick, add a bit of water to loosen the sauce up when reheating.
