Kemi, this recipe was spot on, just what I needed, and the beans were excellent. The ratio of fluid to dry beans was perfect; too many recipes online only offer instructions for one cup of beans, or completely omitted a specific measurement for water.
Instead of water I used 6 cups of pot liquor from a couple ham bones I'd stewed along with a couple cloves of garlic, half an onion, and a bay leaf. The beans turned out great, not mushy, just enough firmness to the tooth.
Thanks so much!

Thank you for this wonderful recipe. It was easy and the kidney beans came out perfect! I used the 1:3 ratio and made 3 cups of kidney beans with 9 cups of broth, added bay leaves and fresh thyme. I used the beans in soup and in salads. I can’t see ever buying canned beans again.

Thank you for this recipe! I'm on my third time making these (literally as I type). I just add bay leaves to it. The 1:3 ratio is perfect for me. I mainly use them on top of my salad or over rice for a lil something quick. Tonight, I'm using it in chili. Thank you, again!

I have the small instant pot so if I cut the recipe in 1/2 would I cut the cooking time in 1/2?
Thank you
Kemi says
No, you don't. Cooking time remains the same.

Tried this recipe. The beans came out semi-mushy. Not necessarily a bad thing but I think less water was perhaps needed. Still good though.

Hi Edward, You can try with 1 cup less water next time and pressure cook for 30 minutes and see if it comes out the way you like. Thanks for the feedback.
