    Instant pot chicken and broccoli recipe that is so easy to make, quick and super delicious! This pressure cooker chicken and broccoli stir fry makes use of few ingredients, cooks in one pot and is perfect served on white rice or noodles.

    Instant Pot Chicken and Broccoli Recipe

    Say hello to another easy, super tasty instant pot chicken recipe from me to you! If you like chicken and you like broccoli, this recipe is about to be one of your favourite chicken recipes. It's so good!

    This Chinese style chicken and broccoli recipe is not only easy to make, it's also quick and cooks in less than 15 minutes. It's low carb, keto friendly , packed full of protein and nutrients. It simply rocks!

    • It is quick and simple. No need to marinate chicken before hand and you literally dump the ingredients in the pot and leave it to cook.
    • You can adapt this recipe and make it on the stove if you do not have electric pressure cooker.
    • Cheaper and healthier than takeout and you get perfect chicken and broccoli in the comfort of your home.
    • One pot dish which makes cleaning up easier plus the instant pot locks in smell and flavours.
    • Perfect served on noodles, rice or pasta for dinner or brunch .

    This recipe is based on using instant pot duo 7 in 1 6 quart. You can make it in any of the instant pot sizes or other brands of electric pressure cooker however cooking time may vary.

    Ingredients

    Chicken - I like to use skinless, boneless chicken thighs or chicken breasts for this recipe. The thighs as first choice because they are more flavourful.

    Onion

    Garlic

    Ginger

    Soy sauce - Dark soy sauce

    Cayenne pepper or black pepper or both - Adjust according to taste.

    Sesame oil

    Brown Sugar

    No sodium chicken broth or Water

    Broccoli

    What else can you add?

    Although this is chicken and broccoli, you can add few other vegetables like:

    Carrots

    Peas

    If your aim is low carb or keto, leave out carrots. 

    How to make Chicken and Broccoli in instant pot

    First prep and get all the ingredients ready. Chop the onion, minced the garlic, measure out all ingredients.

    1) Pat chicken dry, cut into 1 inch cube and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

    2) In a small bowl, add the soy sauce, cayenne pepper, sesame oil and brown sugar. Mix together.

    3) Add the seasoned chicken in the pot of the instant pot then add in onions, garlic and ginger.

    4) Pour in the soy sauce mixture and water then stir.

    5) Cover the instant pot with it's lid then turn the vent into sealing position.

    6) Set instant pot to manual pressure cook on high for 6 minutes. After the 6 minutes of pressure cooking, do a quick release by turning the vent into venting position.

    7) When the pot is safely depressurised, open the lid.

    8) Set instant pot to saute, add cornflour slurry in the chicken and stir.

    9) Add in broccoli, stir gently and let instant pot saute for 1-2 minutes

    10) Turn off saute and cover the instant pot for another 1-2 minutes if you need the broccoli to continue steaming.

    Tips

    • Adjust cayenne or black pepper according to how spicy you want the pressure cooker chicken and broccoli.
    • Pat chicken dry and cut into bite size before seasoning with salt and pepper.

    Storage

    To store, put in airtight container or freezer bags, label and store in the fridge for up to 4 days or in the freezer for up to 6 months.

    To reheat from frozen, put in the fridge overnight to thaw and heat up on the stove or microwave when ready to eat.

    What type of chicken should i use?

    Skinless boneless chicken thighs or chicken breasts. Dice into 1-2" cube. I use both but my first choice when i have both is the thighs.

    Can i use frozen chicken for this instant pot chicken and broccoli stir fry?

    Yes you can. Cooking time for fresh and frozen differ so you will have to add 4 minutes to the pressure cooking time for this recipe if using frozen chicken. So instead of pressure cooking for 6 minutes as with fresh chicken, you pressure cook for 10 minutes.

    Can i use frozen broccoli for chicken and broccoli?

    Althogh it's best to use fresh broccoli for this recipe, you can use frozen broccoli.

    • Instant pot pressure cooker

    Ingredients

    • 600 g (1.2lb) Chicken skinless, boneless chicken thighs or breasts
    • 1 medium Onion chopped
    • 1 tablespoon Garlic minced or paste
    • 1 tablespoon Ginger paste
    • ¼ cup Soy sauce
    • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
    • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar
    • ½ teaspoon Cayenne pepper or black pepper or to taste
    • 1 cup No sodium chicken broth or Water
    • 3 tablespoon Cornflour (Cornstarch) mix with 4 tablespoon water to form cornflour slurry
    • 350 g Broccoli
    • Sesame seed to garnish optional

    Instructions

      The chicken and broccoli was very good my daughter doesn't eat onions so I left them out. Next time I will cut cayenne, only adding less than half. It left such a strong aftertaste, I added more brown sugar and it helped. Other than the pepper, I wouldn't change anything, I liked the flavor, definitely will make again.
