WHY I MINCE MEAT AT HOME
While minced meat are usually readily available in stores, it is much better to make yours at home and here are some of the reasons why I make mine at home:
I know the type of meat and part in my beef – If I want meat only with non fat, I can easily do this by cutting the fat away from meat and I can use whatever meat part I desire. If I want to include fat, I determine the percentage of fat to meat ratio.
I have control over quality and freshness.
I find store bought mince not as tasty as homemade minced meat. Store-bought ones are not as juicy as the ones I make at home. This could be because of the meat part used in store-bought ones.
It’s cheaper to make at home than buy in store.
I am all about homemade foods. It’s healthier and safer.
Homemade is trusted. I haven’t forgotten the horse meat scandal. Yuck!
What Cuts of meat are best for minced meat
Shoulder Cuts. Brisket, short ribs and shank are also good options. If you want lean cut it is best to use leg cut. If using chicken or turkey and you want some fat use dark meat. This part is usually tastier than white meat. You can use breast for lean meat.
