I have been making my own ground beef since I was a teenager. Some recipes I use minced beef for recipes like meat pie, minced meat sauce, in stir-fries and other recipes I will be blogging about soon.

It is convenient for me as I usually have beef cuts in the freezer and I can quickly bring some out and make minced beef rather than having to go to the store to buy.

I am a cheerleader for everything homemade because I believe it's best as it's made with more care and love. Apart from the convenience, I make my own ground meat for other reasons which I talked about below.

WHY I MINCE MEAT AT HOME

While minced meat are usually readily available in stores, it is much better to make yours at home and here are some of the reasons why I make mine at home:

I know the type of meat and part in my beef - If I want meat only with non fat, I can easily do this by cutting the fat away from meat and I can use whatever meat part I desire. If I want to include fat, I determine the percentage of fat to meat ratio.

I have control over quality and freshness.

I find store bought mince not as tasty as homemade minced meat. Store-bought ones are not as juicy as the ones I make at home. This could be because of the meat part used in store-bought ones.

It's cheaper to make at home than buy in store.

I am all about homemade foods. It's healthier and safer.

Homemade is trusted. I haven't forgotten the horse meat scandal. Yuck!

What Cuts of meat are best for minced meat

Shoulder Cuts. Brisket, short ribs and shank are also good options. If you want lean cut it is best to use leg cut. If using chicken or turkey and you want some fat use dark meat. This part is usually tastier than white meat. You can use breast for lean meat.

Technically, any food that has been altered in some way during preparation is processed. Processing can be as basic as canning or freezing. And you're doing this in a food PROCESSOR.

This just isn't processed like the box, crap foods we buy in the grocery store

Thanks for helping out as regards minced meat making, what's the best way to package minced meat? Also,do one need to add preservative? How long can it be stored before it expires ?I'm thinking of packaging it with ziplock nylons or plastic before storing in the freezer.
