How Long To Deep Fry Whole Chicken
How long to deep fry a whole chicken depends on the size. Smaller sizes will cook faster than bigger ones. As a general rule, fry a whole chicken for 4-5 minutes per pound. So, a whole chicken will take 20 – 25 minutes to deep fry.
It is best to check the internal temperature of the chicken at the thickest point to determine that it is at least 165F.
When cooked, the skin will be crispy, and there'll be no blood in the chicken.
Serving Suggestion
Here are some suggestions of what to serve with fried chicken:
Roasted vegetables, pan fried vegetables, boiled carrots.
Storage and Reheating
Let the chicken cool completely, pack it in a ziploc or a sealable container, and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
Reheat it in the microwave, oven, air fryer, or on the stove top.
To reheat it in the microwave, place the chicken on a microwave-safe plate, put it in the microwave, and heat at a high temperature for 2 minutes or until warmed through.

Helpful Tips
- Use a deep pot that is large enough to fit the chicken and has space at the top to prevent the oil from spilling while frying.
- Use odorless oil with a high smoking point. Vegetable or sunflower oil works well.
- The chicken can be seasoned with your favorite dry rub seasoning.
- The chicken should be immersed in the oil to get an evenly fried chicken.
- Don't let the oil get too hot before placing the chicken. If the oil is too hot, it can cause the chicken skin to burn, leaving the inside uncooked.
- A wire chip basket makes it easier and safer to lift chicken out of the oil when it’s cooked.
- Place fried chicken on a parchment paper-lined plate to absorb any excess oil from frying.
- Handle hot oil with care, as it can cause serious burns.
