What is Dalgona Coffee (Whipped Coffee Recipe) and Its Origin
Dalgona coffee is simply whipped coffee. It's a Korean coffee that makes use of 3 simple ingredients and made by whipping instant coffee, sugar, and hot water together until it becomes light, creamy, reach a stiff peak then adding it to hot or cold milk.
The name Dalgona is Korean street sweet toffee and the coffee is named after it because of its similar taste and appearance. It became popular when on TV South Korean actor Jung II-woo said the whipped coffee he had tasted like dalgona the toffee.
Whipped coffee itself is not a new phenomenon. In India it's called beaten coffee (Cappucino, Phitti Hui) and known as frappe coffee in Greece. With beaten coffee, you whisk the coffee, sugar, and water in a mug then pour hot milk over it. With Frappe, you blend the ingredients in a blender. Dalgona coffee, beaten coffee and frappe all make use of same ingredients.
For this recipe you will need a hand mixer or hand whisk. If making in large quantity you can use a stand mixer. Hand or stand mixer is easier and quicker than using a whisk.
