This sardine pasta recipe is not only easy and quick to cook with just 15 minutes of cooking time, but it is also delicious, budget-friendly, and family-friendly.
With this quick pasta sardine, you can serve your family more with less as it is made with a few pantry ingredients and those ingredients are inexpensive, and easily accessible.
If you like pasta, and seafood then you will love this light and delicious pasta with sardines. I have used spaghetti in this post, however, you can use any type of long or short pasta like linguine, fusilli, etc.
This is a healthy pasta recipe. Sardines are a good source of protein, high in omega 3, vitamin D, and calcium, and low in mercury so they make a good diet when eaten in moderation.
It does not make use of cream but if you wish you can add a bit to make it creamy. Cream cheese, heavy cream, or coconut milk can be included in the recipe. You can customize it to suit your taste.
This family-friendly pasta dinner recipe is great for weeknight dinners or any time of the day as it is quick and delightful. It is going to be a favorite of the family. Even if you have picky eaters, they won't say no to this delicious pasta with sardines.
For this recipe, I used canned Sardines in olive oil as it's more flavorful than in water or in tomato sauce. However, you can use canned sardine in tomato sauce, or sardine in water. If using the one in brine, drain the water before use.

Ingredients

Pasta- I used spaghetti. I like to use long Pasta for this recipe but you can also use short pasta. Example of short and long pasta that can be used with it are tagliatelle, linguine, penne, fusilli, rotini, and macaroni.
Canned Sardine- I used canned sardine in olive oil. It's the best for this recipe as I like to use some of the olive oil in the cooking however you can use sardine in tomato sauce or in brine (drain the brine).

How To Make Sardine Pasta
Here is a simple step by step on how to cook pasta with sardine:
Place a frying pan or skillet on medium heat then add olive oil to the pan.
Add in chopped onions and saute for a minute or till translucent then add in chopped garlic.
Pour in the chopped tomatoes, Italian seasoning, black pepper, stock cube, and salt. Stir and cook on medium heat for 10 minutes.
Add the sardines to the pot and gently stir.
It's optional to drain if using canned sardine in olive oil but if it's in brine, drain it. If you feel the olive oil is a lot, you can drain some or all of it.
On another stove, add water to a deep pot, and bring to a rapid boil. Add salt, then add the pasta. Stir and cook till the pasta is al dente or to how you prefer it.
Drain the spaghetti in a colander.
Add the spaghetti to the sardine sauce and stir till mixed. Be careful not to overly break the sardines.
Take off the heat, and serve. If serving Parmesan, sprinkle it on and enjoy.

Garlic bread, no yeast bread
Cheese like Parmesan, or cheddar can be grated on it to serve.
How To Store
To store, let it cool completely then pack it in a sealable container. Label the container and refrigerate. If you intend to consume the leftover within 3 days, store it in the fridge where it'll keep well for up to 3 days. If you prefer to store it for longer then store it in the freezer from the get-go. It will be preserved in the freezer for up to 6 months.
When ready to eat the leftover, reheat in the microwave or oven.
