Tinned mackerel is an inexpensive pantry staple. I especially like having mackerel in tomato sauce in my pantry for quick meals such as this pasta dish.
I have used spaghetti for this post, but whether you use long pasta like spaghetti, or linguine, or short pasta like penne, this tomato mackerel pasta is delicious and you will enjoy it.
Ingredients
Here is what you will need to make pasta with tinned mackerel:
Pasta- I used spaghetti in this recipe. You can use any type of pasta. Penne, bowtie, fusili, linguine, or tagliatelle.
Canned Mackerel - I like to use mackerel in tomato sauce but you can use mackerel in Olive oil if that's what you have.
Onion - Brown, red, or yellow onion. Chopped.
Garlic - Minced garlic
Mixed herbs- This is a combination of different herbs like oregano, thyme, basil, and parsley. You can substitute this for Italian seasoning.
Black pepper- This can be substituted for chilli flakes or cayenne pepper.
Parsley
Stock cube (optional)
Salt- To taste
Olive oil
Parmesan - Optional

Asparagus
Garlic bread
Dinner rolls
Storage and Reheating
This pasta stores and reheats well. Let it completely cool before transferring it to a sealable container, then store it in the fridge for up to 4 days.
To reheat, add a few tablespoons of water (so the pasta doesn't dry up when reheated ), and reheat mackerel pasta in the microwave or on the stovetop.
